Could I have a word, please?

Raise your hand if you’ve been obsessed with WORDL lately. (raises hand). If you’re sitting there with a puzzled look on your face, thinking to yourself “what’s she on about now?” check it out here. Go ahead….I’ll wait.

See! The power of a single word. Right?!

So this got me thinking.

Maybe the idea of picking a single word isn’t so bad.

You know what I’m talking about…picking a Word For The Year, where instead of a new year’s resolution you pick a word that has meaning for you… an intention if you will.

Thing is, it’s A LOT of pressure trying to boil all your goals, intentions, and meaning into one. single. word. For an ENTIRE YEAR?! If you’re anything like me, in the past you’ve spent hours, days even, trying to come up with the “right” word. It’s usually about May or June by the time I finally find it.

But then I was in yoga class the other day and my friend Jen mentioned something about her intention for the week and it hit me: I don’t have to pick just one word!

I can pick a new word every week. Heck, every day if I want to! Who’s going to stop me?

So I created my own word game.

I’m calling it JORDL (see what I did there?) and here are the rules if you want to play along:

JORDL Rules!

  1. Every Sunday pick a word for the week. Something you want to focus on, manifest, or just bring more of into your life.

  2. Now surround yourself with that word…put it where you can see it several times a day. Me, I’m putting it on my desk (I found these fun wooden letter blocks a neighbor was getting rid of just for the purpose because one of the things I want more of in my life this year is play.), on my bathroom mirror, and on the fridge with these nifty magnetic scrabble tiles. You could also make it a screen saver on your computer or make it your password.

  3. Every time you see the word, take a moment to ask yourself what have you done today to embrace this? What else can you do to bring more of it into your life today? Maybe you can write about it…or take a picture of it…or plan a date with yourself or a friend to focus on that thing.

  4. Every week you get to pick a new word. Or don’t! If you find a word that really resonates with you, you can use it again. And again! There are no rules in JORDL!!

Who’s in?

What’s your word this week?
